By sliceSeptember 15, in Yamaha Workshop. Ok confession time, I have never adjusted the floats on any of my bikes! I mean it's already pretty close but if I adjust the float up to get the right depth for the fuel level it has to hit the bloody plunger!! Some of you lads and lasses do this to your 2T bikes on a regular basis and was wondering if you might be able, in words of one syllable, to tell me what if anything I'm doing wrong, as at the moment I have the right float height but the wrong position on the needle valve, at least that is what the manual says.
I can by the way strip down clean and replace the last nut bolt and washer on most carbs but this piece of info about float height has obviously gone right over my head. Thanks for any advice. Words of one silly bull? Seriously, there are a couple of FJ-specific tools required for certain tasks.
Valve shims being one of them. There are certain ways to achieve this without the tool and without fucking up the bike, but it is very specific to the FJ. Hold the carbs on a angle so the tang just barley touches the needle plunger, that way the float weight is not on the needle there by not compressing the needle plunger, and adjust the tang as nessary untill you get the right height. Dont see how it explains a fuel leak though, it will mean not enough fuel in the bowl NO sorry what I mean is that the float is 30 mm to low in the bowl so more fuel is getting in than it was designed for so hence the fuel leak out of the over flow on the carb, my problem as above is that with the tang bent down to the correct float, up position, I am hitting the needle to early and am going to have to little fuel if it's to low in the bowl.
Perhaps you're having troble making the mental switch of having the carb inverted Ok I will try againg hold carbs so float piviot pin is up and carbs are 90 deg from normal and slowly rotate the entire carb body with the piviot up till the tang just barley touches the plunger pin then take your measurement.
Typicaly the arm that hold the floats from piviot will now be level with the carb body where the bowl fits or just slightly raised at the far end of the pivot. Ah I see dt, that is perfect sense, so if I lean the carb body away till the tang is off of the pin on the needle then measure the gap it should tell me the exact distance from the float bowl level. Now I know why I never did this before!
In the youtube vid the guy on there has adjusted the float on the level without tilting it forward till the tang is off of the pin, he was adjusting an xj set of carbs so I assumed wrong! Incline the carb so that the tang just touches the pin, not "off the pin" This is how I do it Slice.
When the carb is upside down hold the float just off the pin with your finger and then measure. Then adjust until its the correct height. I thought that a lot of the T2 boys and girls did this on a regular basis for some reason?

One of the most crucial, yet overlooked adjustments in a Holley four-barrel carburetor is the float. Adjusting the float and fuel level on a Holley four-barrel carburetor is easy if you follow these basic steps.
The floats, located in the fuel bowls of Holley four-barrel carburetors, control the fuel delivery system and ensure that the carburetor has a sufficient fuel supply. Some of the most common symptoms of improperly adjusted or sticky floats are hesitation on acceleration, a rough idle, flooding and misfires. Obviously, making precise fuel float and in turn, fuel level adjustments is difficult on a misfiring or rough idling engine.
So the procedure to adjust this has to begin without the engine running. This procedure will help prevent any back fires. For an electrical fuel pump a Let the fuel bowls fill in stages by turning the ignition key on and off, only letting the fuel pump run a few seconds at a time.
This will help prevent the needle from seating improperly. Flooding will happen when pressure exceeds 7. According to Holley fuel techs, the fuel pressure should be no more than 7 psi; 6 psi is ideal.

With the proper fuel pressure and float level setting, a slight trickle of fuel should be seen at the bottom of the sight plug hole when the vehicle is gently rocked in a side to side motion. Anything other than trickle from the bottom of sight plug hole will require extra adjustment of the float to correct the fuel level in the bowl.
Step 4: Fuel Level Is Too Low: If you didn't see any fuel trickle out of the sight plug, the float is not allowing enough fuel to get into the fuel bowl.
Make only a few turns and then gently pry up on the adjusting nut underneath to break the seal on the gasket. Vehicles with electric fuel pumps do not need to be started for fuel level adjustment.
The fuel will be under pressure and will most likely discharge at the needle when performing a float level adjustment on running vehicle.
Wear safety glasses and cover the needle with a rag during the adjustment to prevent any fuel from coming into contact with hot engine parts.Forums New posts Search forums. It is the gauge which tells your carburetor how much fuel it needs and when it needs it. As you depress the gas pedal, fuel is sucked out of the carburetor reservoir which causes the carburetor float to drop. As the float drops, it opens the needle valve and allows more fuel to enter the reservoir. When you let up on the gas pedal, you decrease the demand for fuel which has a chain reaction. Fuel is no longer sucked out, which causes the float to return to its normal position and closes the needle valve, shutting off the flow of fuel until it is needed again.
All of this can happen within fractions of a second. Remove the linkage from your carburetor with a pair of needle-nose pliers and disconnect the vacuum hoses leading to your carburetor.
Mark the parts to remember how they were assembled for later reference. Remove the bolts that are holding the carburetor to the engine and take the carburetor out of the engine.
Lay the carburetor out on top of your work space. Locate the fuel reservoir tank on your carburetor and remove the bowl by unscrewing it from the top of the reservoir with a screwdriver. Carefully pour the fuel that is in the reservoir into a gas can. Turn the carburetor upside down so that you are looking at the float from the bottom. With the float seated flat against the needle valve, use your fuel level gauge and measure from the bottom of the float to the mating edge or bottom of the existing reservoir bowl with the bottom off.
Your float should be set at 16 mm. Verify that your float is at least 16mm from the bottom to the edge of the reservoir bowl. If it is not, use the needle-nose pliers to carefully bend the float tabs and recheck the measurement. Do this until the float is at the correct setting. Reattach the float reservoir bowl to the top cover with screws and then place the carburetor back on the engine. Secure the carburetor to the engine with bolts. Reattach all the vacuum hoses and linkage to the carburetor.
Test the carburetor float adjustment by starting the engine and observing how it idles. This article was written by the It Still Works team, copy edited and fact checked through a multi-point auditing system, in efforts to ensure our readers only receive the best information.

I am looking for options to dispose the plastic covers which pile up in my house. When I see the dump yards they just burn the waste(Including plastic). Can you please suggest a way where I can decompose the plastic at home. This is great to find. Still, I found practical options on this list.
This is truly the best 1-100 list I have ever seen. Thanks so much for the work putting this together Beth.
I plan on sharing it, hoping others will see that there are choices and its yours to chose to stop using plastics. This is an amazing list. I can continue to improve to live with less plastic since I realized even though i do my best must of the times. I keep failing at it. Keep up the amazing work in educating others to live a free plastic life.
